Nursery - St Mary the Mother of God

24th April 2026

RE

This week in RE the children learnt about when Jesus went back to his father. Jesus spent lots of time with his friends the Apostles, but then it was time for him to go to Heaven. We watched a clip of Jesus lifting up into Heaven and created our own artwork. We have been working really hard on drawing people with a head, a body and arms and legs coming out of the body, and not the head. I think they look wonderful.

Maths

In Maths this week we looked at height and length, we made some tall towers, some short towers, some short snakes and some long snakes. We also played a game where we had an animal card and had to say whether it was tall, long or short and put it in the right place.

Nursery Maths

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

We have started to learn the actions to our class story for this half term and soon we will be painting the story to put up on the wall. There was lots of excitement on Tuesday as 5 very hungry caterpillars arrived in class. We talked about the pot they come in, the food (which is at the bottom), how long they will be caterpillars and how to look after them.

World Earth Day

On Wednesday it was World Earth Day. We talked about how to look after our wonderful world and did some activities to support this. We sorted out pictures into things that are good for the earth and not good for the earth, we had a light free day in Nursery and we also went on a litter pick and found a whole bucketful of rubbish.

World Earth Day 2026

Nursery were very busy on World Earth Day learning about how we care for our planet. They even went into the KS2 area and did some litter picking to help care four environment.

This week we looked at the initial sound ‘j'. In the box we found Jesus, a jumper and a jug.  Can you find something beginning with the ‘j’ sound at home? Upload a photo to tapestry if you do 😊

Nursery - St Mary the Mother of God

17th April 2026

Welcome Nursery Parents and Carers to the first blog on our new website. Just like before, this will be the place to find out what we have been learning about each week in Nursery.

Easter Holidays It's been lovely to see everyone this week after what has felt like a long 2 weeks. Thank you parents and carers for uploading all your easter activities as it's good for the children to talk about what they did during the holidays. If you would still like to add photos to tapestry please do and we will share them.

 RE

In RE this week we talked about why we celebrate Easter. The children were good at remembering and talking about what happened on Good Friday. On Tuesday we talked about what happened on Easter Sunday and the wonderful news that Jesus rose again. The children were very interested in this and asked lots of questions. We created some artwork this week and today we made an Easter Garden.

 Literacy

This half term we will be reading  the story ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar'.

This week we spent time reading the story and watching the online version, if you would like to watch it again at home, here is the link:

We are also waiting very patiently for the caterpillars to arrive, hopefully early next week. We will observe the stages that we see: caterpillar, cocoon and then butterfly! We will release them when they are ready in the last week of term.

Sponsored Relay Race

The nursery children did so well yesterday in their sponsored relay race. The children all did at least one lap holding the batton and then we decided to do lots of laps of the field together.

Thank you so much for sending back the sponsor forms, please ensure all sponsor money is in by Friday 24th April. Once we have added up how much we raised, I will talk to the children about what new toys they would like for the outside area.

Here are just a few photos from yesterday, I will add the rest to Tapestry so please check on there in a few days time.
